I watched the interview of Marco Rubio on “Meet the Press.” What I gleaned from it is that the Trump administration believes the U.S. is better off with Nicolás Maduro out of power in Venezuela (“How the US captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro,” Jan. 3). Assuming that is true, wouldn’t that rationale also justify removing Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and many others around the world?
The question no one in the administration is willing to address is what is the legal authority for the invasion of Venezuela? Trump expressly declared that appropriating Venezuela’s enormous oil reserves justified regime change. Thou shalt not steal is one of the Ten Commandments. Theft is a crime. It’s morally wrong and illegal. I’m ashamed of my country.
