<p>The Anne Arundel County Public Library has announced which five fiction and five nonfiction books have been checked out the most across its locations this year. The library says these 10 books alone have been responsible for 5,763 checkouts. Across the whole system, the library has seen 6,189,685 checkouts this year.</p><p>Full descriptions can be found on the library's online catalog.</p><h4>Fiction</h4><ol><li>"The Women" by Kristin Hannah (checked out 1,165 times): A girl in the mid-1960s makes an impulsive choice to become an army nurse during the Vietnam War. It was also the library system's most checked-out book last year.</li><li>"James: A Novel" by Percival Everett (checked out 833 times): A retelling of "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," told from Jim's point of view.</li><li>"Great Big Beautiful Life" by Emily Henry (checked out 806 times): An enemies-to-lovers romance about two writers aiming to win biography rights for an heiress. The genre <a href="https://www.capitalgazette.com/2025/11/04/jane-austen-pride-and-prejudice-250-playwright-whipday/">has seen a resurgence</a> in recent years.</li><li>"Here One Moment" by Liane Moriarty (checked out 795 times): Passengers on a flight hear their deaths individually prophesied by the aptly named "Death Lady."</li><li>"We All Live Here" by JoJo Moyes (checked out 761 times): A woman at one of the lowest points of her life rekindles a relationship with her estranged father.</li></ol><h4>Nonfiction</h4><ol><li>"Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum" by Antonia Hylton (checked out 459 times): A behind-the-scenes look at a story close to home: <a href="https://www.capitalgazette.com/2025/09/04/crownsville-hospital-patient-cemetery-memorial/">the Crownsville Hospital</a>, a segregated asylum.</li><li>"The Demon of Unrest" by Erik Larson (checked out 367 times): Covering the five months between Abraham Lincoln's election and the battle of Fort Sumter, beginning the Civil War.</li><li>"The Let Them Theory" by Mel Robbins (checked out 358 times): A self-help book attacking "the power you give to other people."</li><li>"The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt (checked out 310 times): A book studying the rise of anxiety and depression in Gen Z.</li><li>"The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder" by David Grann (checked out 267 times): From the same author of Killers of the Flower Moon, this book covers the shipwreck of a British vessel in the mid-1700s.</li></ol><p>The library has had a big year, including the expansion of its <a href="https://www.capitalgazette.com/2025/08/28/annapolis-mall-library-new-expansion/">popular Annapolis Mall location</a>.</p><p><em>Have a news tip?
