We’re here at President Emmanuel Macron’s palace in Paris, France, and the Brazilian president is in town for a meeting.
There’s some conflict between the two, but the big news here today is that Macron is doubling down in support of a Palestinian state, a two-state solution. Obviously, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not pleased at all. He sees it as a betrayal.
How this works out or not is an open question. But right now, we all know that President Donald Trump does not believe that a two-state solution is the answer. Perhaps he’s a little more open to it now, but that’s the big issue in Paris today.
Whether there’s a remote possibility that there can be a Palestinian state in the Middle East that resolves at least some of the conflict that’s going on in Gaza remains to be seen.
It’s important to note that there are even Arab states that quietly reject this, but they cannot come out and say so because they have fear of a terrorist retaliation because they’re in the hotbed of the Middle East.
But that is the issue that is brewing in Europe right now, among many others. It’s whether or not Macron can gather enough momentum to really push hard for a Palestinian state to actually become a reality.
