Howard County Library System’s Savage Branch will be “closed until further notice,” according to a Facebook post published Friday afternoon.
“A staff member from Savage tested positive for carbon monoxide this evening,” said HCLS Chief Operating Officer Angela Brade in a Thursday email distributed to local schools.
The branch faced ongoing “facilities issues” throughout the week, with closures starting on Monday. Closures were announced on HCLS social media pages, prompting concern online.
“If you visited the Savage Branch this week, please monitor your health and seek medical attention if you feel unwell,” Brade said in the email.
An alert banner on the library website noted that due dates would be extended into December, and items being shipped or held will be available for pickup until Dec. 10.
The library is working to rebook reserved meeting rooms to other branches, said Christie Lassen, the HCLS director of communications and external affairs.
Classes will be canceled until the branch reopens, she said. Community members are encouraged to check out offerings at the five other branches which “offer many of the same types of classes and resources.”
“The county is investigating the building to determine the status of all building systems before reopening to the public,” said Safa Hira, Howard County Government’s director of communications and engagement.
