A predawn house fire in Washington County left three adults dead Tuesday, prompting an extended investigation by state fire officials and Maryland State Police.
Firefighters were called to the 13800 block of National Pike in Clear Spring around 4:30 a.m. and arrived to find the home engulfed in flames, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office. During a primary search, crews found one adult man and two adult women inside. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire marshal’s office also confirmed two family dogs were rescued from the home and taken to the SPCA. Fire suppression and overhaul operations continued through the morning.
Deputy State Fire Marshals, aided by a K9 unit and detectives from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division and Forensic Science Division, are investigating what triggered the fire.
