We asked readers if they liked the Orioles’ hiring of Craig Albernaz as manager.
Here are the results from our online poll:
- Yes — 68% (516 votes)
- No — 32% (239 votes)
Here’s what some fans said about the hiring (answers have been edited for clarity and grammar):
Hot name that turned down the White Sox and Marlins last year. Let’s get some young blood in there! — Bud Campbell
I like it. I didn’t want Albert Pujols or some other famous player. I wanted a good manager. Yes, one of the proven, older managers may have been good, but I like that Albernaz is young and can relate to the players. Last time we won the World Series, we had Altobelli. Maybe another name similar to that will do the trick! — Herb Hopkins
Let’s see how much autonomy this guy actually gets. There is no GM on the horizon, according to multiple reports, so is this another yes man? Or someone who lets Elias do whatever he wants. To me, it’s a nothingburger, but only time will tell. If he gets saddled with our current hitting and pitching coach, we are in deep dodo. This does not inspire confidence at all. — Burt Wills
Ask me next October. — John Darlington
Could not vote yes or no. There should be another option of maybe. Do not know much about him. But the “experts” think highly of him. Only time will tell if Albernaz will be a good hire. — Robert
No one knew who Earl Weaver was when he was hired. However, this team does not Palmer, Cuellar, McNally and others such as the Robinsons or a Boog Powell. Players play and managers manage, and when players perform well, the manager looks good. — Dan Contesti
Isn’t this like hiring Brandon Hyde again? Without a World Series ring. — Mark Heffner
I’m happy about the hire as a younger coach with winning experience. Should be helpful. Also, he appears to be a good coach for our two catchers. — Tom Brown
Nothing personal toward Craig, but his new boss has a 7-year track record of bad decisions. — mikemiller128 on Instagram
Can he pitch? Otherwise this doesn’t move the needle. — wagner911 on Instagram
