Police have not yet made an arrest in a shooting that occurred after a fight broke out at a memorial service in Glen Burnie this week.
Justin Mulcahy, a spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department, said Friday that the investigation remains active and the department is asking anyone with information to come forward.
Around 7:45 p.m. Monday, county police arrived at Brooks Terrace Road in Glen Burnie for a report of a shooting and found a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to a lower extremity.
Police said officers determined the shooting was the result of a fight that broke out during a memorial service for the recently deceased owner of the residence. Mulcahy declined to provide further details about the person whose service it was.
There was a large crowd outside when officers arrived, police said. They believe the suspect fled on foot after the shooting.
The man who was shot was taken to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment. Mulcahy said the man is still being treated at the hospital for his injuries.
Mulcahy said detectives hope that with all the people who were at the memorial, witnesses will step forward. He said detectives are working to gather more information.
It remains unclear why the fight broke out, Mulcahy said.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the police department at 410-222-6135 or 410-222-4700.
