Mount Airy has chosen a new person to run the town’s day-to-day operations.
Jared Schumacher will be the new administrator, after being approved by the Town Council on Thursday. The town has been searching for an administrator for several months.
Schumacher, whose annual salary will be $95,000, will start work Monday. He was previously a town administrator in Washington County’s Boonsboro, was a town consultant for Union Bridge, and worked for Sykesville
“We are excited to bring on Jared based on his significant experience in the past with Sykesville, Union Bridge and Boonesboro,” Mount Airy Mayor Larry Hushour said in an email. “We were impressed with his interview, and follow-up calls to his references assured us that we’d made an excellent choice. He’s very fluent in Carroll government, being a native of the county. But we’re going to enjoy introducing him to all our Frederick county cohorts! He’s ready to hit the ground running!”
The former administrator, Heather Smith, was in the position for two years. She has been with the town for 25 years overall and is returning to her town accounting post.
Hushour added: “Some immediate projects he’ll be integral to would be PFAS [“forever chemicals“] remediation in our water supply, the construction of our police station, finishing out ARPA projects, numerous development issues and the implementation of Mount Airy’s recently passed Master Plan.”
