A driver was airlifted to a hospital Saturday after a car flipped off a Mount Airy road, trapping the person inside, fire officials say.
According to a social media post from the Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company, crews were alerted of a single-vehicle crash in the 2800 block of Flag Marsh Road around 3:55 p.m., Saturday. While en route, the call was upgraded to include entrapment, officials said.
Responders found the vehicle rolled on its roof in a wooded area next to the road with the driver trapped, according to the post.
Fire officials said once the vehicle was stabilized, both the driver and passenger side doors were removed to allow rescuers to access the driver.
The driver was transported in an advanced life support ambulance to the Carroll Equestrian Center, which served as a landing zone for the Maryland State Police Trooper 3 helicopter, which took the driver to an area hospital, officials said.
The driver’s condition and the cause of the crash are unknown.
In 2019, the 2800 block of Flag Marsh Road was the scene of a fatal ATV crash that took the life of 45-year-old Stacey Ranee of Frederick and left another ATV driver in critical condition. Similar to Saturday’s crash, the all-terrain vehicle also left the narrow, two-lane, windy roadway before striking a utility box and colliding with a tree.
