Women’s sports activist Riley Gaines and Olympic gymnast Simone Biles engaged in a heated exchange on social media over support of transgender athletes.
Biles last week took aim at Gaines, an outspoken critic of transgender athletes. She took to X writing “bully someone your own size, which would ironically be a male @Riley_Gaines_.”
The social media attack on Gaines was launched by Biles on Friday after the former NCAA All-American swimmer reacted to a transgender athlete winning a state championship in Minnesota softball.
Gaines fired back with a post of her own, accusing Biles of betraying her female fanbase.
“This is so disappointing,” Gaines wrote. “My take is the least controversial take on the planet. Simone Biles being a male-apologist at the expense of young girls’ dreams? Didn’t have that on my bingo card. Maybe she could compete in pommel horse and rings in 2028.”
Biles then doubled down, attributing Gaines’s platform to her being a “sore loser.”
“You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race,” Biles wrote. “Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports,” she wrote.
“Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!!” she added. “But instead You bully them One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!”
Gaines later reshared an old post on Biles’s page in which the gymnast wrote “ahhhh good thing guys don’t compete against girls or he’d take all the gold medals !!”
“Oop don’t you hate it when your past self completely undermines your current nonsensical argument?” Gaines added.
On her “Gaines for Girls” podcast on OutKick, Gaines said “in just two tweets, Simone Biles basically tarnished her reputation to anyone with a shred of honesty, to anyone with a moral compass and to anyone with an inherent innate desire to protect women, to fight for equal opportunity for both men and women especially as it pertains to sports.”
Former professional race car driver Danica Patrick showed her support for Gaines on Instagram over the weekend.
“I truly believe common sense will prevail. But until then, I am grateful for people like Riley Gaines who are making sure no one gets away with it,” Patrick said. “Defending men in women’s sports is the woke mind virus and/or another issue that requires therapy.”
